History of the Mansion
The ancestral home of the Pemberton family is located on the Newportville-Fallsington Road in Bucks County and has been known for two hundred and ninety years as “Bolton Farm.” Historically and architecturally, the house is one of the most significant in Pennsylvania; nearly every one of its inhabitants since the days of William Penn has influenced the course of history in the state.
History of Bolton Farms
“Bolton Farm” is located between Fallsington and Emilie on the Fallsington Road in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, about one mile and half from Tullytown Station on the New York Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Bolton Mansion Cemetery
The Bolton Mansion cemetery, as you can see from the plaque, was the John Rowland and Priscilla Rowland Sheppard (wife) burial ground. John and Priscilla were with William Penn on the ship, “Welcome” in 1682. Originally, there were graves here from Pennsbury Manor but those graves have been moved to the location of William Penn’s home by the Delaware River. You can see that some of the grave stones can be still be read and some have been wiped away over time.
History of the Pemberton Family
The historic home of Phineas and Phoebe Pemberton and the Anthony Morris Families. Mrs. Morris, Molly/Mary, great-granddaughter of the Pembertons, sadly never lived there, as she died in her 30’s. He was so depressed that his first cousin, prominent Phila. Doctor, Caspar Wistar (of Wistar Road fame?) suggested he needed a change of scenery, the usual prescription in 1812, before discovery of germ theory, penicillin, etc. This is what led Morris to write to his old friend, Pres. James Madison, requesting he choose him for the post in Spain.
